We have more than 130,000 Scottish Rite Masons in the Southern Jurisdiction… We, through living Masonic lives, can become the mortar that keeps our world together in challenging times.

The Scottish Rite of the Orient Washington is actively engaged in expanding the Fraternal experience enjoyed by Masons throughout the State. There are Scottish Rite Valleys located in several communities in Washington that provide access to expanded Masonic thought, education, and fellowship.

Scottish Rite Masonry is the intelligent advocate of the principles of an enlightened society. It advances the notion that we can create an empire of reason and wise morality, and its degrees provide practical examples, in symbolic form, of what is necessary to achieve this. It prompts us to consider ourselves as integral to the advancement of the human race, and challenges us to make ourselves fitting to the task.

If the purpose of the Lodge of Perfection is self-discovery and, especially, the awakening of the individual’s spirituality, the purpose of the journey of the Chapter of Rose Croix is to fan that spark into a flame and to make it the center of our lives and interactions with others.

The Scottish Rite is often called the “University of Masonry,” but I suggest a more appropriate title would be the “Graduate School of Masonry.” The three degrees of the Blue Lodge provide the solid foundation lessons of our fraternity. The 29 degrees of the Scottish Rite provide opportunities for the student of Freemasonry to build upon those teachings.
